"Either I will conquer Istanbul or Istanbul will conquer me. "

I did get to watch Fetih 1453 yesterday. I won't spoil much, but I still want to reflect on it.
The movie began with me thinking Oh god, the effects are terrible....
We heard Hz. Muhammed say that one day Constantinople will be conquered, and the conquerer will be a great man. Then suddenly we're at the birth of Mehmet—Fatih Sultan Mehmet—and that too, passes rather quickly, and before you know it about 18 years have passed and we see an older şehzade (prince) Mehmet having a sword fight with Ulubatlı Hasan. We soon learn Hasan has taught Mehmet how to fight and they're pretty close friends. Then Mehmet learns his father has passed away. He visits him for the last time, speaking about how his father never showed him love. It's a rather emotional scene so early on in the movie.
Mehmet soon becomes the new Sultan, but he has a bad reputation with the public. He keeps making peace with countries, and everybody questions his authority.
The first half of the movie is about 1451 and 1452, and things Mehmet does in that time period. I found it a little confusing and it passed very quickly. In this first half, we also see the development of the relationship between Hasan and a woman names Era who makes cannons with her father. Also there are many scenes showing Emperor Constantine and his council.
The second half of the movie is the actual conquest. I won't say much about that. Because I think it's worth seeing!

My opinion of the movie...Well, it showed big improvements in Turkish cinema, we don't have many action movies, but this one was epic. The war scenes were extremely realistic—I had to look away at times—and I'm pretty sure it could compete with the Immortals in goriness. It was pure awesomeness. Sure, I don't like gore, but I was always excited and surprised.
So that was nice. But there was a big bad side to the movie too. The plot line wasn't very...well prepared? It seemed like the movie was more about war scenes than the actual plot and characters.
It was looooooooong, but there were missing bits!

I loved it anyway—maybe because it was about the Ottomans... Costumes were amazing too.
So, go watch it!

Pictures:

Yesterday I said I'd draw dragons, but that seemed like a hard task, so I drew other creatures instead.
So here's my interpretation of a chimera (head only), a chiwawa Cerberus, griffin/gryphon, pegasus (because they're beautiful), Prometheus and the vultures, and me on Porfirio!

For our art project I drew two perspective drawings today. It's very hard...but it was fun! I hope these drawings will clear things up for my friends.

Now time to do MUNESCO research...
